Andrzejki

30 November
Andrzejki – A Polish Celebration for Young People
This week we spent afternoons at school because we wanted to learn about our future. On the 30 of November in Poland we celebrate Andrzejki. Each year we have a special party on St Andrew’s Night. It is a special night when you can learn the name of your future husband or a wife. You can also find out what your profession will be. During this night of telling fortune we usually put our shoes in a row across the room. The girl whose shoe touches the door first is going to marry first. We always pour melted wax into a bowl with cold water through the key. You must be very careful! The wax then becomes solid and forms a shape. When you look at it you must guess what object it is and in what profession can you use it. You can also make a wish. Patricia’s shape was like a cat. What does it mean?
